On the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, two organizations presented the videopodcast 'Desobedientes Inc.', an initiative that seeks to challenge the social mandates that condition women's freedom and security, to make violence visible, and to offer practical tools to break cycles of control and dependency.
Partner violence is a phenomenon with far-reaching economic, health, and labor repercussions. The report 'Socioeconomic Impact of Gender Violence' evidences that this form of violence causes substantial losses for women by reducing their monthly labor income; in the case of sexual violence, the decrease amounts to 17.4% of the average income, equivalent to more than two months of work per year.
These data reinforce the urgency for the private sector to stop considering domestic violence as an issue outside its responsibility. The presence of violence in the private sphere also translates into a direct impact in the workplace. The risk of decreased productivity in employees exposed to these situations reaches 96.7%, expressed as a lack of concentration, episodes of fear, and absenteeism.
At an individual level, the health consequences are especially serious: 63.8% of victims develop post-traumatic stress disorder and 47.6% present depression, conditions that affect the quality of life and labor capacity in a sustained way.
This individual detriment has immediate effects on the national economy, particularly in sectors where female labor participation is essential. The global economic cost of partner violence is estimated to be between 1% and 4% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), a figure that reveals its structural magnitude.
To strengthen its intervention strategy, Insight Comunicación has established an alliance with Casa Gaviota, a civil association dedicated to the care, prevention, and elimination of family and gender-based violence. Casa Gaviota promotes a culture of peace through psychological attention and legal advice, with the aim of restoring the autonomy and power of women in situations of vulnerability.
The director of Insight, Maricela Ramos, holds that making this problem visible constitutes an essential step to modify the dynamics that perpetuate violence. Dolores Blancas, president and founder of Casa Gaviota, highlights that the alliance with Insight expands the reach of the message and allows for influence in key decision-making spaces, which is decisive for transforming institutional and business practices.
Insight and Casa Gaviota are calling on the business sector to implement security protocols, internal support networks, psychological assistance services, and confidentiality mechanisms to protect their female employees. The adoption of these measures constitutes not only an ethical obligation but also a necessary strategy to safeguard human talent and guarantee the productivity of organizations.
